1. We would like to know how did Jyuroku yama nursery school start. What was the beginning? 

Mr. Furuki was working at bank, specialised in research and analysis. He travelled a lot in many countries. When he met and spoke with many people all around the world, he started to think of japanese education.  Someone recommended that he should found a kindergarden of his own.  This is the history behind Jyuroku yama nursery school.

2. There must be an educational philosophy here in Jyuroku yama nursery school. 

Mr. Furuki says: “My belief in spirit is most important core to attract the nation.” 

3. Many philosophers and educators has had influence on Mr. Furuki´s educational point of view. 

Mr. Furuki mentions Confucious and Buddha from eastern world. From western world his thinking has been influenced by Immanuel Kant and E.H. Erikson`s theory on psychosocial development of human beings. He was interested in how children socialize and how this affects their sense of self, self respect and respect for other people. Also play has important role, play has a lot of aspects to console one´s own mind. Mr. Furuki also mentioned E.H. Erikson´s 8 steps of human development.

Jyuroku yama nursery school´s educational environment has been influenced by Maria Montessori´s method. Teachers role is very important. Teachers must observe children´s sensitive periods. Teachers must observe if the environment is operating well enough for children´s learning. Mr. Furuki appreciates teachers knowledge from many different fields and he emphasises co-operation between children and teachers.

Fundamental thougts of Jyuroku yama nursery school

Credo

We foster child’s fundamental abilities and qualities to be the person who has
the sheer will aspiring after the human supreme in deed, and who contemplates the whole existence radically and profoundly.

Seven Wishes

  1. We wish every our child will grow so as to be the person who conducts own life not only associating own erudition, virtue and profound wiseness but also integrating own inner mind with stability.
  2. We wish every our child will grow so as to be the person who could continue to think what is the truth and truly important.
  3. We wish every our child will grow so as to be the person who could keep a spirit of wondering.
  4. We wish every our child will grow so as to be the person who feels richness of the spirit on dedicating to someone rather than receiving care from.
  5. We wish every our child will grow so as to be the person who is always honest with oneself and could be free from affectation.
  6. We wish every our child will grow so as to be the person who has unbeatable heart.
  7. We wish every our child will grow so as to be the person who takes the leadership role for human progress, contributes to stability and order of the international community.

Mr. Furuki is inspired also in Reggio Emilia -pedagogy. He hopes that in the future Jyuroku yama nursery school would learn more about it.
